Relationships can be hard. However, it doesn’t have to be that complicated. All that you can do is strive to be the best version of yourself. Push to be a better man every day. Don’t waste time thinking you’re perfect, because no one is. In all honesty, the most valuable advice to be given is quite simple. The commonly known principles of relationships that build a strong foundation for couples are often forgotten and overlooked. My advice? Don’t neglect them.

Be Honest

Honesty is a huge part of any relationship. You simply cannot have a healthy relationship with someone you love, if one of you is not honest with the other. While you cannot control her honesty, you can ensure your own. All you really can do is make sure you’re doing your best to always remain truthful, and at the end of the day it will pay off.

Be Loyal

No matter how strong and happy a relationship is, it can be destroyed by infidelity. If you want your relationship to thrive, then you need to dedicate yourself to it. Do not stray away from whoever you’re committed to. Loyalty along with honesty cultivates trust between two people, and trust is vital.

Be Kind

No one wants to be with a jerk. Kindness is something that all women want to receive from their boyfriend. My parents always told me, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it at all.” Usually, they would tell me this in regards to things I would say to my sister, but this piece of wisdom applies in relationships too. If you have criticisms, make them constructive. If you’re saying something just to be mean, then don’t say it at all.

Be Vulnerable

Vulnerability is hot. Relationships are all about being as close to the other person as possible. Women love to know that they know you better than anyone else, that they see parts of you that most people don’t. It brings sanctity to the relationship that makes it all the more real. So, open up, show her parts of yourself that you don’t show just anyone.

Be a Gentleman

While the phrase, “chivalry is dead,” is increasing in its popularity, we all hate to think it is true. All girls love to be wowed by a gentleman who treats them like they are a million bucks. It is as simple as opening her door, or telling her that she looks ‘beautiful’ instead of ‘hot.’ Simple little things like that will make her feel like a princess.

Don’t Rush It

Take your time. There is no reason to go full throttle, keep things slow. Take time to make sure that things are right and that she is the one for you. Don’t get wrapped up at the moment and propose after two months. It takes time to know if someone is your person, so take that time.

Don’t Be Scared

At times, relationships can be scary. When things get real, it can be intense and frightening. Don’t be afraid to do anything that could make your relationship better than it is. Being vulnerable is difficult, but it is necessary. Honesty can be nerve-racking, but it is a must in any relationship. As Babe Ruth said, “Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.”

At the end of the day, you just need to remember the basics. Love does not need to be a complex game, and relationships don’t need to be stressful. If anything, think of the golden rule: treat her how you want her to treat you. If you want her to be honest, kind, and loyal, then you need to do the same. It is as simple as that when it comes down to it.
